Records
As of 2009, the Sunshine Act and the PA Right to Know Law have worked together to provide transparency of government, and give citizens access to public open records to which they are entitled. Requests can be made to review or receive copies (for a nominal fee) from any public body. The state office asks you to use good judgment in seeking records and not use the law to harass or overburden public bodies from performing its other functions. A request should be specific and should be made to seek records, not to have questions answered. There is a difference between “How much money did you spend on the carnival” vs. “Please provide a record that reflects the expenditures by the Township for the carnival.”
